Stefan Willer (Germanistik, Berlin): Zukunft als Wunscherfüllung

Abstract

Wishing is a mode of designing and generating the future. This concerns both the projection of what is wished for onto a future present and the processing of wishing into forms of present future. Important theoretical models for this are, for example, the dream, which according to Freud represents wish fulfillment, or the machine, which in Deleuze and Guattari stands for the processuality and productivity of wishing. This lecture will focus primarily on the complex temporality of literary ‚wish texts‘. The focus will be on Salomon Geßner's idyll „Der Wunsch“ and Franz Kafka's „Wunsch, Indianer zu werden“.
