Forschungsprojekt

Around 1850, the talk of the 'sacredness of work' becomes ubiquitous. However, the various participants in the discourse have very different understandings of it: There are theological and socialist positions, Marxist criticism of it - and proposals from the bourgeois side, how one could think the 'sacredness of work' in a further way, e.g. with the idea - finally based on Hegel - of the self-invention of man through work. The project will show that the "Bürgerliche Realismus" deals with all these positions when it sets out to describe the new world of work.
