Workshop with Raymund Vitorio

Language, Precarity, and Au Pairing: A Conversation with Former Filipino Au Pairs in Germany

Following Raymund Vitorio's (Sociolinguistics, Manila) Auerbach Lecture on “#AuPairsInGermany. Contesting Precarity through the Mediatization of Emotions and Lived Experiences of Filipino Au Pairs in Germany”, the discussions of the previous evening will be continued and deepened in the workshop that Vitorio is organizing together with his host at the Erich Auerbach Institute Anne Storch (African Studies, Cologne).

The first part of the workshop will feature two Filipino au pairs whose social media accounts Vitorio is studying as part of his research. In a joint discussion, they will not only provide insights into their everyday life, but also allow a dialog between theory and practice.

In the second part of the workshop, the sociolinguistic approach of the research project will be discussed more clearly on the basis of previously provided texts.
