Panic, Paranoia, Pleasure. Media and Affects of Preemptive Fascism
Following the lecture by our fellow Katrin Köppert, this workshop will examine the relationship between affect and media in the context of rising global fascism and authoritarianism. We will discuss this development under the heading of pre-emptive fascism, which is a form of fascism that is embedded in algorithmic prediction logic and that regulates potential threats and fictional fears preventively and with a sense of pleasure. So how do panic, paranoia, and pleasure interact? And what role do digital media and algorithmic logic play in this?
In preparation, we kindly ask to read the text “Exploratory Notes on the Origins of New Fascisms” by Zeynep Gambetti — Zeynep Gambetti (2020): Exploratory Notes on the Origins of New Fascisms, in: Critical Times 3,1, 1-32. DOI: https://doi.org/10.1215/26410478-8189841
