Abstract

There is room for many voices within the poem’s space. Poetry, whose tradition is rooted in orality—that is, passed down from mouth to ear—draws on many voices; it is the form, the specific shape of the poem, that provides the voices and the experiences behind them with a ‘space of appearance’ in Arendt’s sense. For the world emerges in the in-between. ‘To quote’ means to encounter. Where quotations, metaphors, foreign rhythms and tropes populate one’s ‘own’ poetic voice.

The presentation will be given in German.
